Evangelical Scripts & Methods

After a good icebreaker; you should be ready to transition into the Gospel via a “go to” Evangelical Script or method to explain the Gospel with an opportunity to lead them through a version of the sinners prayer afterwards.

An Evangelical Script is almost like an interactive sales pitch that engages the lost person and gives them an immediate sense of conviction for their sinful past and impending doom, but then allows for an easy way out of judgment because what Jesus did for them. They get to accept the free gift of Salvation and be freed from all judgment while receiving the Holy Spirit as a guide & comforter. This is a deal any wise person can’t refuse, but sadly, some do.

An Evangelical Method is an organically presented opportunity for the Gospel to be introduced. A personal testimony can be a great tool to prime somebody for the Gospel.

Testimony Example – My life used to be full of selfishness, anger and self destructive behavior. Then I gave my life completely to Christ and received his forgiveness. Now my life is full of purpose and joy because I serve him. Do you have a story like that?

Examples of The Sinners Prayer;

Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner, and I ask for Your forgiveness. I believe You died for my sins and rose from the dead. I turn from my sins and invite You to come into my heart and life. I want to trust and follow You as my Lord and Savior. In Your Name. Amen.

Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner and that I cannot save myself. I know I can’t earn my own way to heaven and that my best works & deeds will never get me there. Thank you for dying on the cross for my sins. Please forgive me & remove sin from my life. I want to live for you. Come into my heart and be my Lord and Savior. In Jesus name, Amen

Lord Jesus, I need You. Thank You for dying on the cross for my sins. I open the door of my life and receive You as my Savior and Lord. Thank You for forgiving my sins and giving me eternal life. Take control of the throne of my life. Make me the kind of person You want me to be. In Jesus name, Amen

Visual Aids

Sometimes it is good to have a visual aid handy to portray the bad news and the good news in a way that is very simple to understand. You can have a tract with graphics, an old picture that goes with your testimony or you can draw out a Gospel metaphor on paper.

3 Circles Method

The 3 Circles Method is a useful Visual Aid for the Gospel. It helps you connect with somebody using everyday language that people can easily understand while drawing out a very simple visual aid on paper.

3 Circles

Dialog Example – Have you noticed how crazy things are getting in this world? All you hear about or see on the news is bad. That is because the world is filled with BROKENESS (draw and circle the word). People try and escape this brokenness by sex, drugs, alcohol, religious activities and other distractions (draw squiggly lines from brokenness with arrows). These distractions act like bungee cords because they always snap you right back into brokenness. It didn’t used to be this way. Originally, it was GOD’S DESIGN (draw and circle the word) and that was beautiful and perfect. Sin brought us into brokenness (draw line from God’s Design with an arrow towards brokenness and write sin on top of it) and all people are now born into it. Jesus came down from heaven (draw 3rd circle with Jesus in it), died on the cross and rose again on the 3rd day so we can recover from brokenness and pursue God’s design (draw arrows and words while talking) by repenting of our sins and believing in Christ. Which one of those circles are you in now; God’s Design or Brokenness?

2 Spiritual Questions

The 2 Spiritual Questions method is a great tool to gauge whether or not somebody is saved. From there, you can pray for them and/or lead them to repentance through the Gospel. Start with an icebreaker and go from there.

Example – Can I ask you 2 quick question of a spiritual nature? They are very important.

  1. Have you gotten to the point in your spiritual life where if you died, you know (without a doubt) that you’d go to heaven?

If they say no, tell them that is OK and it’s why you are here. Go through the Gospel and pray with them. If they say yes; move on to question 2.

  1. Say you died (tonight) and you are standing before God and he asks you why he should let you into his heaven. What would you say to him?

If their response to question 2 is anything other than faith in Christ alone; they are still lost. Tell them what the Bible says (bad news & good news) and get them saved!
